Contemplate what each stat does before beginning to build an Alchemist. The following are general ideas of potential builds.
+
Cart Revolution Build
INT Brewer
+
* STR: 70-90
*STR: 1
+
* AGI: 30-50
*AGI: 1
+
* VIT: 70-90
*VIT: 1
+
* INT: 1+
*INT: 70-99
+
* DEX: 50
*DEX: 52-99
+
* LUK: 20-40
*LUK: 52-99

This is one of the most common brewing builds. For leveling, options include using a , and or using a Homunculus. Marionette Control can be used in order to increase brewing success rates further. Summon Flora can also be used for leveling with auto-cast equipment such as , , , , , since summon flora attacks count as your own.
+
This build is centered around the Cart Revolution skill for AoEing groups of monsters at once. ASPD does help Cart Revolution spam rate, especially when pushing monsters against walls. Mammonite still provides high single target damage.

LUK Brewer
+
AGI Build
*STR: 1

*AGI: 1

*VIT: 1

*INT: 45

*DEX: 85 or 99

*LUK: 85 or 99

This has one of the highest success rates for potion creation but requires a lot of leeching or a lot of AFKing with a Homunculus. LUK may be preferable to DEX as most Gypsies and Minstrels have high DEX but do not have any LUK. Thus, when Marionette Control is used with this build, the Alchemist will receive a significant boost in DEX from the Gypsy or Minstrel, and the Alchemist's own LUK will further increase success rates for brewing.
+
* STR: 70-90
+
* AGI: 80-99
+
* VIT: 50-70
+
* INT: 1
+
* DEX: 40-60
+
* LUK: 20-40

AGI Battle
+
The AGI build is is usually recommended for newer players without funds. They have high ASPD and FLEE for quick single target killing, so it uses minimal HP / SP Healing Items. Their main method of attack is melee-ing single monsters, and sometimes utilize autocast gear. Alchemists do not have skills that increase flee rate (like a Thief's Improve Dodge, so it is recommended to use at least SOME sort of FLEE gear (such as Falcon Muffler or Whisper carded garment).
High STR (remember to make the total a multiple of 10), high AGI, moderate or low VIT, and Moderate DEX

This is a soloing or Blacksmith party build which allows for easy soloing. However, potions will not heal too well and HP may be lacking.

VIT Battle
+
Useful Gear for AGI Builds:
High STR (remember to make the total a multiple of 10), moderate or low AGI, high VIT, and moderate DEX
+
* [1] or
Get as much STR as possible and a small amount of AGI for some ASPD. Overall this is a build which relies on mobbing and Cart Revolution. This also works as a WoE/PvP build due to the hefty VIT. Players who choose this build will have fun destroying armor.
+
*
+
*
+
*
+
*
+
* or

MvP
+
Tank/Aid Potion Healer Support Build
High STR (remember to make the total a multiple of 10 and yes this is important), moderate AGI, moderate or high VIT/DEX
+
* STR: 40+
It is difficult to compete at MVPs with an Alchemist. A Blacksmith is required to Adrenaline Rush. Use an Axe for large MVPs and spam Mammonite. A very large amount of DEX is required to hit many MVPs. Being coated is also necessary at MVPs such as Eddga, to avoid having armor broken.
+
* AGI: 70+
+
* VIT: 70-90
+
* INT: 1+
+
* DEX: 30-50
+
* LUK: 20-40

WoE Support
+
Pure Homunculus Killer/AFKemist Build
Moderate STR, low AGI, high VIT, moderate INT, high DEX, and low LUK
+
* STR: 1
The main purpose of this build is to throw potions at guildmates and Acid at enemies. The high DEX and VIT allows for fast casting of Acid Terror and high potion healing, respectively. Not much STR is really needed.
+
* AGI: 90+
+
* VIT: 90+
+
* INT: 1
+
* DEX: 30-50 (for leveling up until getting a Homunculus)
+
* LUK: 20-40

Spellsword
+
Acid Terror/Bomb build
High AGI, medium INT, low/moderate VIT, STR and DEX
+
* STR: 80-90
This build was very popular during the time when alchemist skills could be controlled by Homunculus AI. This was changed in early 2008, and this build is now obsolete. It was meant for AFK leveling in orc dungeon level 2, relying on Agi for defense, while the player's Homunculus controlled use of Firebolt/Coldbolt granted by the Ice Falchion or Fireblend weapon (hence the int in the build).
+
* AGI: 1+
+
* VIT: 70-90
+
* INT: 1
+
* DEX: 30-50
+
* LUK: 20-40

Equipment
+
This build is for rich players with a lot of funds that want to level faster.
Weapons
The weapon used is primarily based upon one's build. For example, an Alechemist prioritizing AGI and ASPD should generally use Sabers. Those preferring to maximize damage are better suited with Axes. The following is a listing of the most common weapons and why they are beneficial.
+
Brewer
+
* STR: 1
+
* AGI: 1
+
* VIT: 1
+
* INT: 46
+
* DEX: 90
+
* LUK: 94

* Saber
+
This has one of the highest success rates for Potion Creation, but requires a lot of leeching or a lot of AFKing with a Homunculus.
+

+
This stat build is NOT recommended if you have Marionette Control available to you to boost stats. If you are using Marionette Control you can reasonable expect a +45 boost to DEX for most builds with 90 DEX.
+
+
If you have access to Gypsy or Minstrel on your server you really shouldn't even be looking at the stat builds for the Alchemist as the job level of 70 for the biochemist greatly increases the success rate for potion creation.

The Saber, a type of One-Handed Sword, is one of the most common weapons amongst battle Alchemists primarily due to the relatively low ASPD delay as well as the benefit of 3 slots while maintaining high ATK. The biggest drawback to this weapon is that the player will be unable to benefit from having a Blacksmith partner, which is relatively rare.
+
Equipment
* Axe
+
Eden Group Equipments Quests
Because of the skill Axe Mastery, it is evident that one will be able to bring out optimal damage from an Axe. However, Axes have a large ASPD delay, which means they whack slow but hard. On the postive side, players using Axes can not only benefit from Axe Mastery but also a Blacksmith partner. Similarily, Two-Handed Axes have the largest ATK of weapons forgable by Blacksmiths, making them the best choice for elemental weapons. However, the limitations of Card Slots and/or ASPD means players should really study these weapons before making a full investment.

* Spell Weapons
+
Eden Group Equipment is free and a great place to start for gear to use. The One Handed Sword is a good weapon and generally a good choice for an Alchemist and their future classes' use.

Light Epsilon - Axe that allows the use of Level 3 Heal.
+
General Equipment Recommendations
• Lv Req. 44 • Atk 180 • Holy Property • Demon Bonus Dmg 3%
+
:Main article: Equipment

Fireblend : Sword that allows the use of level 3 Fire Bolt
+
The Equipment article lists some general all purpose equipment that is useful through the PVM phase and also for endgame use as well.

• Lv Req. 40 • Atk 100 • Fire Property • Chance of using Lv 3 Fire Bolt automatically while attacking without the use of SP.
+
Third Class Compatible Equipment
Ice Falchion : Sword that allows the use of level 3 Cold Bolt
+
:Main article: Geneticist Equipment

• Lv Req. 40 • Atk 100 • Water Property • Chance of using Lv 3 Cold Bolt automatically while attacking without the use of SP
+
It is recommended to look at the Equipment recommendations for the Third Class job to see what equipment to strive for, rather than to spend a lot of money on a piece of equipment that will not be used in the future as a third class. However, some equipment may have a high level requirement, or are transcendent only.

• 5% Chance of freezing opponent while Attacking. • 1% Chance of getting frozen while attacking.
+
Weapons
Tomahawk : Axe that allows the use of level 1 Tomahawk Throwing

• Lv Req. 44 • Atk 165 • Wind Property

The first three of the above weapons are beneficial for INT built Alchemists and Brewers.

Armor
Remember to avoid basing builds on any particular armor, specifically one that occupies the headgear or body slots. This allows for more versatile characters that can easily change these armors for an array of benefits.
+
After considering what requirement skills have (some skills can only be used with certain weapon types), the Weapon Search tool within the iRO Wiki DB site is very helpful. Generally, for physical classes (both melee and ranged), something with high ATK is best. For magic classes, something with high MATK is best.

* Saint's Robe
+
Link to the iRO Wiki DB Weapon Search: http://db.irowiki.org/db/weapon-search/

This is particularly a good armor for those who have Priests because they can share the gear between characters while maintaining decent DEF. However, to optimize Alchemist DEF, Chain Mails are much better.

• Lv Req. 01 • Weight 060 • Defense +6 • Mdef +5

* Chain Mail

A readily available piece of armor which offers some of the best DEF. Players who plan on having their Alchemist as their main character should have one or two of these sufficiently upgraded and carded.

• Lv Req. 01 • Weight 330 • Defense +8

* Lord's Clothes

The best, most expensive, and hardest to find armor for Alchemist. It has the same DEF as the Chain Mail, and it weights considerably less. The only drawback of this wonderful armor is the level requirement.

• Lv Req. 70 • Weight 250 • Defense +8 • Mdef +5 • Int +1

Garment
* Muffler or Manteau

A Muffler is probably a player's first choice of a carded armor for the shoulders if and only if the player lacks the funds and has other characters. Mufflers can be worn by most classes. For optimizing DEF however, one should use a Manteau. 2 of the most wanted cards for Manteaus and Mufflers are Whisper and Raydric.

* Pauldron

The Pauldron is recommended only when you have lots of money. Since you only get a slight boost on the DEF, you don't really need to get it. Specially since the Required level for it is 80. But if you have the money, the level and want the extra Def, Go for it!

Foot Gear
* Shoes or Boots

A pair of Shoes are a cheaper effective foot gear for most players and most classes can wear shoes. However, to optimize DEF one should use Boots. There are several types of cards for shoes.

Potion Creation
Manuals and the skill Prepare Potion are needed to begin making potions. All of the manuals can be found in Al De Baran and all with the exception of the Condensed Potion Manual are 100,000z each (240,000 for the Condensed Potion Manual.) Empty Potion Bottles and Testubes are sold at the Mage guild in Northwest Geffen. Medicine Bowls are also sold in Al De Baran. Scells are sold in the Geffen Tool Shop for 160z each. All other items are monster drops and must be hunted for. Refer to Potion Materials Hunting Guide for a basic idea of where to hunt for these items.

Potion Math
Potions creation math is still disputed however, the following equation appears to be most accurate at the moment.

Success Rate = Potion Research × 1+ Prepare Potion × 3 + Job lvl × 0.2 + DEX × 0.1 + LUK × 0.1 + INT × 0.05 + (%)

* +20% : Red Potion, Yellow Potion, White Potion

* +10% : Alcohol

* +0% : Acid Bottle, Mine Bottle/Marine Sphere Bottle, Bottle Grenade, Plant Bottle

* -5% : Blue Potion, Anodyne, Aloevera, Embryo, Elemental Potions

* -10% : Slim White Potion, Glistening Coat

The following chances are disputed:

* -5% or -10% : Slim Red Potion

* -7% or -10% : Slim Yellow Potion (Between -7% and -8%)

Potion Materials Hunting Guide
+
The weapon used is primarily based upon one's build. For example, an Alchemist prioritizing AGI and ASPD should generally use Swords. Those preferring to maximize damage are better suited with Axes. The following is a listing of the most common weapons and why they are beneficial:

* Red Herb : Best from Familiars (Payon Caves) or Red Plants.
+
Common Weapons
* Yellow Herb : Best from Bonguns (Payon Caves) or Yellow plants.
+
Swords are some of the most common among Alchemists primarily due to the relatively low ASPD delay as well as their moderate ATK. However, the player will be unable to benefit from having a Blacksmith partner, which is relatively rare. Also, because of the skill Axe Mastery it is evident that one will be able to bring out optimal damage from an Axe. However, Axes have a large ASPD delay, which means they swing slow but hard. On the positive side, players using Axes can not only benefit from Axe Mastery but also a Blacksmith partner.
* White Herb : Best from Ghouls (Glast Heim Abbey & Churchyard), White Plants, Blazers and Lava Golems in Magma Dungeon.

* Blue Herb : Found throughout Rune-Midgard, mainly through Blue Plants, Goats or Nightmares.

* Alcohol : Found primarily off Mushrooms.

* Stem : Mandragoras and Floras (near Prontera).

* Poison Spore : Poison spores (near Alberta).

* Cactus Needle : Mukas (near Morroc).

* Mole Whiskers : Martins (two upper levels of Coal Mines).

* Witch Starsand : Bathories (Clock Tower Basement level 4).

* Fabric : Whispers (Glast Heim or )

* Maneater Blossom : Geographers (Einbroch fields) or Floras (near Prontera).

* Tendon : Marine Spheres (lower levels of Izlude Dungeon).

* Detonator : Marine Spheres (lower levels of Izlude Dungeon).

* Immortal Heart : Verits (Pyramids).

Fame System
+
* ': A sword that deals extra damage with Level 5 Double Attack and it's rather light, but it lacks of Card Slots. (ATK 120)

For Brewers there is a system in which players are ranked based on who can create the most potions.
+
* ': The best choice for elemental weapons because they have the highest ATK among weapons forgable by Blacksmiths. However, they lack of Card Slots, so a study is required. (ATK 185)

* Rank Point +1: 3 Condensed Potions created without failure in a row.
+
Spell Weapons
* Rank Point +3: 5 Condensed Potions created without failure in a row.
+
* ': An axe that allows the use of Level 3 Heal. (ATK 180, +3% damage to Demon, Holy property)
* Rank Point +10: 7 Condensed Potions created without failure in a row.

* Rank Point +50: 10 Condensed Potions created without failure in a row.

Alchemist ranks can be checked via usage of the "/alchemist" command ingame. Potions made by an Alchemist/Biochemist who is in the top 10 list will receive a 50% bonus to their potency. This does not apply to potions used via Aid Potion or Aid Condensed Potion.
+
* ': A sword that allows to use Lv. 3 Fire Bolt. (ATK 100, Fire property, may autocast Lv. 3 Fire Bolt while attacking)

Homunculus System
+
* ': A sword that allows to use Lv. 3 Cold Bolt. (ATK 100, Water property, may autocast Lv. 3 Cold Bolt while attacking)
+
:5% chance to freeze the enemy while attacking, 0.1% chance to get frozen while attacking.

The Homunculus is a pet that kills, supports, and does stuff for its master. An Embryo, from which a Homunculus will be born, can be created via Prepare Potion with the following materials from the Al De Baran Alchemist guild:
+
* ': A sword that allows to use Lv. 5 Bash. (ATK 150, STR +2, DEX +1, S Grade slottable)

*
+
* ': An axe that allows to use Lv. 1 Tomahawk Throwing. (ATK 165, Wind property)
*

*

*

*

Once an Embryo has been created (or purchased from another player), use the skill Call Homunculus to receive 1 of 4 types of Homunculus. The Homunculus received is random, and each type has two sprite variations. Much like pets, Homunculi need to be fed or they will run away.

Overview

The Alchemist is a class which optimizes Potion Creation and Homunculus, as well as various other potion-related skills. They are a class which work for the benefit of their friends and strike terror into the hearts of their foes (armor).

Jobchange Guide

See Alchemist Job Change Guide for detailed information.

Changing into an Alchemist from a Merchant requires the player to complete a number of tasks:

 • Item Collection
 • Written Test
 • Transformation Experiment

After completing these tests, the player will be transformed into an Alchemist.

Builds

Cart Revolution Build

 • STR: 70-90
 • AGI: 30-50
 • VIT: 70-90
 • INT: 1+
 • DEX: 50
 • LUK: 20-40

This build is centered around the Cart Revolution skill for AoEing groups of monsters at once. ASPD does help Cart Revolution spam rate, especially when pushing monsters against walls. Mammonite still provides high single target damage.

AGI Build

 • STR: 70-90
 • AGI: 80-99
 • VIT: 50-70
 • INT: 1
 • DEX: 40-60
 • LUK: 20-40

The AGI build is is usually recommended for newer players without funds. They have high ASPD and FLEE for quick single target killing, so it uses minimal HP / SP Healing Items. Their main method of attack is melee-ing single monsters, and sometimes utilize autocast gear. Alchemists do not have skills that increase flee rate (like a Thief's Improve Dodge, so it is recommended to use at least SOME sort of FLEE gear (such as Falcon Muffler or Whisper carded garment).

Useful Gear for AGI Builds:

Tank/Aid Potion Healer Support Build

 • STR: 40+
 • AGI: 70+
 • VIT: 70-90
 • INT: 1+
 • DEX: 30-50
 • LUK: 20-40

Pure Homunculus Killer/AFKemist Build

 • STR: 1
 • AGI: 90+
 • VIT: 90+
 • INT: 1
 • DEX: 30-50 (for leveling up until getting a Homunculus)
 • LUK: 20-40

Acid Terror/Bomb build

 • STR: 80-90
 • AGI: 1+
 • VIT: 70-90
 • INT: 1
 • DEX: 30-50
 • LUK: 20-40

This build is for rich players with a lot of funds that want to level faster.

Brewer

 • STR: 1
 • AGI: 1
 • VIT: 1
 • INT: 46
 • DEX: 90
 • LUK: 94

This has one of the highest success rates for Potion Creation, but requires a lot of leeching or a lot of AFKing with a Homunculus.

This stat build is NOT recommended if you have Marionette Control available to you to boost stats. If you are using Marionette Control you can reasonable expect a +45 boost to DEX for most builds with 90 DEX.
If you have access to Gypsy or Minstrel on your server you really shouldn't even be looking at the stat builds for the Alchemist as the job level of 70 for the biochemist greatly increases the success rate for potion creation.

Equipment

Eden Group Equipments Quests

Main article: Eden Group Equipments Quests

Eden Group Equipment is free and a great place to start for gear to use. The One Handed Sword is a good weapon and generally a good choice for an Alchemist and their future classes' use.

General Equipment Recommendations

Main article: Equipment

The Equipment article lists some general all purpose equipment that is useful through the PVM phase and also for endgame use as well.

Third Class Compatible Equipment

Main article: Geneticist Equipment

It is recommended to look at the Equipment recommendations for the Third Class job to see what equipment to strive for, rather than to spend a lot of money on a piece of equipment that will not be used in the future as a third class. However, some equipment may have a high level requirement, or are transcendent only.

Weapons

After considering what requirement skills have (some skills can only be used with certain weapon types), the Weapon Search tool within the iRO Wiki DB site is very helpful. Generally, for physical classes (both melee and ranged), something with high ATK is best. For magic classes, something with high MATK is best.

Link to the iRO Wiki DB Weapon Search: http://db.irowiki.org/db/weapon-search/

The weapon used is primarily based upon one's build. For example, an Alchemist prioritizing AGI and ASPD should generally use Swords. Those preferring to maximize damage are better suited with Axes. The following is a listing of the most common weapons and why they are beneficial:

Common Weapons

Swords are some of the most common among Alchemists primarily due to the relatively low ASPD delay as well as their moderate ATK. However, the player will be unable to benefit from having a Blacksmith partner, which is relatively rare. Also, because of the skill Axe Mastery it is evident that one will be able to bring out optimal damage from an Axe. However, Axes have a large ASPD delay, which means they swing slow but hard. On the positive side, players using Axes can not only benefit from Axe Mastery but also a Blacksmith partner.

 • 1126.png Saber [3]: A common weapon generally used with damage cards. (ATK 115)
 • 1130.png Nagan: A sword that deals extra damage with Level 5 Double Attack and it's rather light, but it lacks of Card Slots. (ATK 120)

Spell Weapons

5% chance to freeze the enemy while attacking, 0.1% chance to get frozen while attacking.

Homunculus System

Main article: Homunculus System

The Homunculus is a pet that kills, supports, and does everything for its master. An Embryo, from which a Homunculus will be born, can be created via Prepare Potion with the following materials purchasable from the Al de Baran Material Seller, in the Alchemist guild alde_alche35179:

Once an Embryo has been created (or purchased from another player), use the skill Call Homunculus to receive 1 of 4 types of Homunculus. The Homunculus received is random, and each type has two sprite variations. Much like Cute Pets, Homunculi need to be fed or they will leave their owner:
